Lead Design Engineer

Adient Aerospace is looking for a Lead Design Engineer to join our team in Huntington Beach, California. This is an on-site role and must be based in Huntington Beach, CA. There are remote opportunities in Texas, Washington, or Michigan available. JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Design Engineer is responsible for creating and driving the implementation of effective seating design solutions, from inception to completion, with consideration to schedule, budget, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. They will also ensure the technical accuracy and maturity of the design throughout the development process. Their time will be split between directly executing detail designs and overseeing the work of others in the department.

  • Design products by defining and executing engineering concepts, including material and process selections
  • Coordinate with groups such as manufacturing, planning, purchasing, program management, certification, stress engineering, and electrical engineering to ensure program completion according to safety standards, regulations, and schedule
  • Apply engineering principles in the development of products to ensure unit meets specification, regulation, schedule, and budget requirements
  • Create 3D models of individual components and assemblies in CATIA. Create and or check 2D drawings of parts, components, sub-assemblies and assemblies as required in CATIA and AUTOCAD
  • Establish and monitor robust design specifications to be applied to all Adient Aerospace products
  • Define clear goals for all aspects of a project and develop steps for their proper execution
  • Identify and integrate opportunities for standardization and automation in all aspects of the design
  • Serve as Design focal to the industrialization team to ensure design intent is properly understood and incorporated
  • Develop and optimize designs which adhere to performance targets including cost, volume, weight, and quality, as established by management and customer demand. Identify opportunities to optimize components and assemblies whenever possible
  • Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing and assembly, including and not limited to soliciting observations from fabricators, operators, quality assurance, product support, supply chain specialists, or other disciplines as needed
  • Coordinate component integration aspects such as electronics and other BFE items
  • Champion the implementation of critical development processes (DFMEA, DFM, DFMA, Design to Cost, tolerance analysis, etc) to ensure mature, high-quality products
  • Own the definition of and adherence to department KPIs, driving training to the team as required
  • Serve as primary focal for technical support to the supply chain to address vendor inquiries
  • Drive and oversee design reviews throughout the Product Development Cycle
  • Coordinate with prototype department and remote engineers to ensure designs are validated through physical mockups and all pickups are incorporated prior to release
  • Lead other Design Engineers on one or more projects
  • Maintain a safe, secure and legal work environment, adhering to all Company policies and procedures
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of the Company’s information and products

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS – Education, Knowledge, and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical discipline is required
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical discipline is desired

Experience:

  • 8+ years of direct experience

Skills:

  • Ability to successfully handle and delegate multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience in understanding a variety of manufacturing processes including composites forming, CNC machining, stampings, sheet metal forming, and thermoforming.
  • Strong comprehension of material properties including metals, general plastics, and composites.
  • Ability to design complex integrated kinematic assemblies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of related software including CATIA, AUTOCAD, and PLM.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge of FAA (Part 21 and Part 25) and Boeing requirements
  • AutoCAD and/or CATIA V5 familiarity
  • Microsoft Office proficiency

SUPERVISION PROVIDED TO THE POSITION

  • Direction is provided in terms of tasks and objectives. Work is reviewed upon completion on how well objectives have been met. Will work autonomously with only occasional status updates with supervisor

  • Will oversee and direct the work of others.
  • Drive the training and coaching of other team members

PROBLEM SOLVING

  • Develop and provide solutions to complex problems based on established precedents and are consistent with organization objectives

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Adient Aerospace offers competitive wages and benefits to recognize employees for their work. The base pay offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, experience and take into account internal equity.

Salary Range Transparency: $115,040 - $143,800 annually
